Round up: Candle Holders Between $5 and $50

Have you heard of Hygge? It is a Danish word that, according to The Little Book of Hygge, “has been translated as everything from the art of creating intimacy to coziness of the soul to taking pleasure from the presence of soothing things.”. If you have not yet read the book I would highly recommend it as it is full of inspiration to create more hygge in your home (and life). One of the things suggested in The Little Book of Hygge that I really would like to do is lighting candles. With young children at the table, dinner time can be a noisy and rushed event and I am interested to see what incorporating candlelight into some of our dinners could have on the atmosphere, conversation and pace of our meals. If you are looking for a magazine worthy tablescape, mantle moment this winter or just a little something to add Hygge to your own home, consider dusting off those candles and candle holders. If you don’t have candle holders or are looking for something a little more trendy check out the round-up below that wont break the bank but will definitely look fabulous! These would also make a fantastic Valentines Day gift for a friend, partner or to yourself! Bring on the Hygge!

Design Tip: Ever wonder why you often see a group of candle holders sold as a set, or why stores sell a small, medium and large version of the same holder? That is because humans prefer (often subconsciously) to group like things together because it is more pleasing to the eye. It also tends to be more pleasing when items are grouped in odd numbers. Now, rules are sometimes meant to be broken, but if you are wondering how to display your candle holders, or other similar decor, start with a grouping of 3 at varying heights.

Safety reminder: Never leave candles unattended and be careful around young children - that could be very un-hygge! Consider purchasing battery powered candles instead for that peace of mind. Battery powered candles are sold everywhere in both pillar and tapered candle format. I recently purchased these from Amazon.ca and it has eliminate the safety concern of having candles lit around small children.
