Little Girl’s Room Refresh- Reveal

In a past post I shared my plans for my little girls room (read it here). I originally wanted to paint her room a soft grey-blue and this could have been accomplished if I had managed to paint my daughter’s room before she was able to communicate (very clearly) her preferences. My starting inspiration for the colour was one of her bracelets with a small unicorn charm. I got out my paint deck and decided that Benjamin Moore’s Grey Cashmere was a very close match so I ordered my paint sample from Hello Paint. When the sample arrived I placed it on the wall in her room and left it there to judge over the following day or two, seeing what it looked like in the morning, by lamp light etc. That evening my daughter came into her room and said “OH that is a very pretty colour… but I want a purple room”.

She was 2 and half and she knew what she wanted. Who can blame a girl for that. So I went back to the paint deck and I landed on Benjamin Moore- Porcelain. Ordered my Hello Paint sample, and kept it to myself so I wouldn’t get any more unsolicited feedback on my new plan!

This refresh of her bedroom was always on my list, but finding time to complete the work had been difficult to accomplish when most of my free time aligned exactly with her nap schedule. Anyone out there thinking they will paint and decorate their new babies room on their own after the new bundle of joy arrives… I beg you to reconsider and get it done before that baby makes an appearance. Otherwise you may wind up in my position of decorating for a opinionated three year old! Apologies for the blurry after photo (smudged lens) but I think it is helpful to show the same angle of the room from before and after, and NO… the room has not been this clean since I took this photo. Now that this room is more than an off-white characterless square my kids love playing in here and that alone makes the effort and cost of this work worth while! For non-smudgey after photos keep scrolling!

The original plan (see here) included adding board and batten to the lower 2/3 of the wall and to paint the trim, doors and casing all the same colour with the top painted Benjamin Moore’s Simply White (OC-117). That remained, but with the choice to go with the purple paint I did change some of my other design choices. The largest differences being that the previous plan included a complimentary scheme of coral pink accent to accompany the blue-green walls and in this rendition I opted for an analogous colour scheme, adding in the purpley-blue accent along with the purple, violet and pinks in the room.

As mentioned in the post of the refresh for my boys’ room, the choices made here will grow with M (now newly 3!). In a few months her toddler bed will be upgraded to a twin bed, the rocking glider moved to the play room and décor easily swapped out when she tires of rainbows, but the board and batten, paint colour and larger décor can mature and provide function for years. The rug (linked here) is the Palais Meadow Navy Printed Rug from Rifle Paper Co. x Loloi. I just loved the rugs in this collection, knowing I could find one for my little girl’s room when the time came. I love the bold colour, feeling it grounds the space and provides a nice contrast from the lighter less-vibrant colours throughout the room. The toddler bed she has now is a little small, but once her twin bed is in place the size of the rug will be more appropriate for the space, providing a nice cushioned, very easy to vacuum, play area. If you are thinking of adding an area rug to a child’s room or play area, consider printed rugs like this one, as they are easy to sweep, vacuum or spot clean, not to mention more cost effective.

The Rifle Paper Co. x Loloi collection has beautiful floral and tapestry-like prints that will brighten your space. Here are a few of my favourite printed rugs from the Rifle Paper Co. x Loloi (sale rugs are an extra 30% off today!).

The Eden Lattice rug is giving me such Secret Garden meets Anna from Frozen vibes that I regret not creating the room around this rug! If you have a little Frozen lover in your house and are looking for help with a room refresh I am already brimming with ideas! Call me!
